By his stripes we are healed

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you are all having a blessed day

I was in the book of Isaiah 53 v 1-5 a few weeks ago and this verse demonstrated that although Jesus was scorned, hated and rejected by mankind, he still took up our pain and bore our suffering. He was pierced for our wrongdoings and crushed for our immoralities.

Jesus died for our sins on the cross to heal humanity and to set us free from sin so that we can reconcile our relationship with him; so that our transgressions can be forgiven, therefore we can draw close to Jesus and he can draw close to us (James 4:7-10). He died so we would no longer be separated from him.

‘The chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed’

By his stipes we are healed is referring to sin and righteousness, not sickness and diseases. We are healed by the shame and guilt through the cross so that we may be forgiven, acquire peace and spend eternity with Christ our Lord.

I looked up the definition of healing and it stated; ‘the process in which a bad situation or painful emotion ends or improves.’ God’s love for us is so deep and profound that he came down on earth to restore and rectify the brokenness caused by our sins.

I was watching a sermon on YouTube and he stated that Jesus came down with the cure and that cure took his life. However, the thing about the cure is you have to take it, and he used an example of medicine on the shelf doesn’t do anyone any good if you do not take it. There are some who will take the medicine, whereas there are some who will refuse it. We can all have the medication but we need to take it.

In essence, Jesus died for me and for you, but it is up to us acknowledge and recognise that if Jesus had not died on the cross, we would not have the opportunity for salvation and everlasting life. But by his grace and by his mercy (Ephesians 2:4-5) we can make it right with him again. It is up to us to want to make it right.

We are sinners in this world that need Jesus more than anything. ‘If we say we have no sin we deny ourselves and there is no truth in us (1 John 1:8) But if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’

To confess means to admit and once we can own up to God and surrender to him saying ‘God I need you’ we can start our healing process and refine our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

By his stripes we are healed! We are no longer sin sick. Jesus is alive right now, risen from the dead and will continue to lead us, guide us and forgive us but we must come into acceptance.
