Faith of a mustard seed

Hello everyone, welcome back to another blog! It has been a while since I have uploaded but I am back by the grace of God. We have made it into the month of August! I pray that this month will be amazing and I pray for favour and an overflow of blessings for you over this month.

This years blog theme is ‘A Year Of Increased Faith’ and I have been trying my best to not fall off course and stay on topic! With that being said, I want to talk about having faith as a mustard seed. I was in the Book of Matthew 17:20 which states; ‘Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’

So what does it mean to have faith of a mustard seed?

Mustard seeds are small round seeds of various mustard plants. When I first looked up what a mustard seed looks like I initially just had in mind Jesus was signifying that you can have a faith that small for things to move in your favour; this is true. However, the more I delved into understanding the depth of the meaning, I came to the acknowledgement that the faith of a mustard seed is exhibited by what it does with the little that it has.

You see, mustard seeds grow until they reach an average height of between 6 and 20 feet, sometimes up to 30 feet. Jesus was illustrating the astounding growth that can occur from something so tiny like a mustard seed. Jesus was exemplifying the kind of faith we need to have; one that grows and perseveres until it develops into a full mustard tree. The faith we need to endure and withstand turmoil. The kind of faith where nothing will be impossible for us according to Gods will. ‘For with God nothing is impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfilment’ Luke 1:37-45.

As we continue our journey into the second half of 2024, I want us to display this type of faith. I want us to be so confident in God and his will for us that no matter what circumstance or situation we face for the rest of this year, we will not stop believing in the plans that God has for us. In Isaiah 55:8-9, it reminds us to put our complete trust in God because his ways and plans are so much better than our own. Sometimes we tend to worry and fear because we lose that faith in God, we begin to doubt if He is really there for us but God will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He wants us to have faith in him and not to distrust, as without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Amen x
